I just finished getting a fully redundant push server in place for Weather Watcher. This, unfortunately, won’t help with any problems when the original one goes down and makes it so you can’t watch a new location, but this will make it so that while the original server is down, you’ll still get your push weather updates. It’ll take an app update to get register/unregister locations to have a redundant server.

I’ve also got my shared host to plan a check on the server to see why it has been going down so frequently this month. Until then, hopefully having this second server doing most the processing will help.

Weather Watcher server improvements

I’ve spent yesterday and today working on getting the server for Weather Watcher improved. It was down due to the shared hosting for most of the day yesterday and I figured that was a sign to get something better in place now instead of later.

I have improved the shared hosting server code. The weather you get should now be more accurate and hopefully less strain on the shared server.

I’ve also started work on a redundant, dedicated server. It’s not fully helping out yet, but should be helping some to keep the shared server to have less strain while getting weather pushed out to everyone. I hope this helps.

I’m still working on a plan to get a better server in place to accept device registration/unregistration so that you won’t get those Server Failed messages (that happen about 5% of the day right now) when trying to watch a location anymore.

I apologize for any inconvenience the server being down causes any of you and I’m really trying to get something better in place to keep it from happening.

I just submitted an update to Weather Watcher to fix the following issues:

All devices:
Fixed issue if a user had watched a location on one device and restored to same or new device they would no longer would get temperature updates until watching another location. Now it can detect that problem and correct it so you’ll still get updates after a restore.

iPad:
Fixed forecast text getting cut off if it was too long.

PhotoShooter and PS Lite 1.3.6 Submitted

Added iOS 4 multitasking compatibility. Remember: Shake to clear screen.
Added option to clear the canvas and be back to blank canvas.
Fixed crashing.

Added – Auto update weather every 10 minutes when left open for if using as a weather frame
Added – Manually refresh weather details without having to re-open the app by tapping refresh button
Added – iOS 4 multitask compatibility
Fixed – Wait longer, if needed, to get more accurate location.

iPad:
Fixed – Disable add and search buttons as needed.
Fixed – Forecast “Scattered Showers” now shows rain instead of sun icon

Weather Watcher is now available for the iPad. One app will run on the iPhone or iPad.

The iPhone part will be updated in the future to be prettier like the iPad is.

Weather Watcher delayed

Sorry for the delay of the update that adds iPad support. Apple found a crash that happens on the iPhone (which would happen in the version that is currently out). I’ve gotten it fixed and resubmitted. Hopefully just another few days until it is released.

For those that are curious, the crash happens if you bring up the web view by tapping the blue arrow on a row and going back to the location list before the page finished loading.
