Go SCUBA – progress

Posted by Branden Russell on Aug 29, 2009 in Go SCUBA!, Sneak Peek |

Here’s a post to spill a bit of what is getting polished up right now to be in the rewrite update.

As you may already know, the database has been completely replaced with Core Data, that’s already pretty much done. I’m just finalizing what should be included and where so the database doesn’t need any upgrades for a while.

Mapping dive sites is almost finished. In this update, you’ll be able to see dive sites nearby on a map.

I just finished adding the ability to let users add, edit, and delete types/categories. People asked to be able to make their own categories for weather conditions, water conditions, entry types, inventory item types, and surf types. Now you can! Also, you’ll be able to do the same for Dive Buddies! Select a dive buddy for a dive from a list that you can add, edit, and delete buddies!

I found the causes of the crashes in the version currently available, but felt this rewrite is so close, that I’d just get it done and submitted instead of doing another update of the older code. This new version is very stable and isn’t crashing.

Just a few more sections to rewrite and polish up and add a database conversion so existing users can keep their data and then the update will be ready. It should only be another couple weeks or so before it’s submitted! This initial rewrite will add a few new features that I have to get in now to avoid doing another database update later (mainly the category types editing mentioned above). Then after I get this stability/rewrite/enhanced version out (version 1.5) I’ll start work on adding more features. I’ve got lots of great stuff planned and I’m excited to get it released.

Please feel free to comment about anything you’d like to see in the future or if you’d like to help test.
